Summary
An early adventure of the Lonesome Cowboy as an official lawman Having accepted the sheriff s job in Red City， Lucky Luke arrives to find a town entirely under the control of Pat Poker， a ruthless gambler， cheat and saloon owner， and his henchmen。 His horse， clothes and revolver stolen， Luke decides to pass himself off as a harmless， bumbling tenderfoot， all the better to study his opponents and catch them unaware。 Still， Pat won t give up easily， and keeping him behind bars might require some additional work。。。

Na dzielnego kowboja przemierzającego niebezpieczne tereny Dzikiego Zachodu， czeka właśnie nowe wyzwanie。 Luke decyduje się objąć posadę szeryfa w Red City。 Miejscu， w którym stróżowie prawa mają pełne ręce roboty i dość często kończą oni niezbyt dobrze。 Już samo dostanie się do tego miasteczka， nastręcza bohaterowi sporo problemów。 Później będzie tylko gorzej i bardziej widowiskowo。 Okoliczni bandyci na czele ze swoim szefem， którym jest tytułowy Pat Poker， nie mają bowiem zamiaru podporządkowa Na dzielnego kowboja przemierzającego niebezpieczne tereny Dzikiego Zachodu， czeka właśnie nowe wyzwanie。 Luke decyduje się objąć posadę szeryfa w Red City。 Miejscu， w którym stróżowie prawa mają pełne ręce roboty i dość często kończą oni niezbyt dobrze。 Już samo dostanie się do tego miasteczka， nastręcza bohaterowi sporo problemów。 Później będzie tylko gorzej i bardziej widowiskowo。 Okoliczni bandyci na czele ze swoim szefem， którym jest tytułowy Pat Poker， nie mają bowiem zamiaru podporządkować się nowej władzy。 Nie wiedzą oni jednak， że tym razem przyjdzie im się zmierzyć z kimś więcej niż tylko kolejnym zwykłym „szeryfem”。Ponowne spotkanie przywódcy bandytów i LL następuje w drugiej dostępnej tutaj historii zatytułowanej Zamieszanie w Tumbleweed。 Luke trafia w niej do pewnego miasteczka zarządzanego przez znanego rewolwerowca。 Niedługo później na miejscu pojawia się Pat Poker， który zawiązuje sojusz przeciwko Lukowi。 Kolejny jednak raz nie docenia on szybkości kowboja， który już wielokrotnie wychodził obronną ręką z całej masy poważnych kłopotów。Dostępne tutaj historie powstały pierwotnie na początku lat 50-tych。 Jest to dość mocno widoczne w ich pewnej surowości i oferowanym klimacie。 Mamy tutaj do czynienia z początkami serii， która dopiero szukała swojego właściwego stylu/formy。 Morris serwuje czytelnikowi tylko i aż przyjemną w odbiorze dawkę komiksowego westernu gdzie lekki humor przeplata się ze scenami akcji。 Czyli dokładnie tym， czego oczekiwał czytelnik w tamtym okresie。 Nie znajdziemy więc tutaj typowej dla późniejszych odsłon warstwy edukacyjnej czy prób nakreślenia głębszej fabuły。 Nie zmienia to jednak faktu， że pomimo swojej „prostoty” komiks czyta się bardzo przyjemnie i zapewnia on należytą dawkę rozrywki。 Dla największych fanów cyklu tytuł może stanowić również bardzo ciekawe studium rozwoju marki （zarówno pod kątem fabuły， jak i rysunków）。https://popkulturowykociolek。pl/recen。。。 。。。more

5Lucky Luke has been on my list to read for years now and it's finally the time to clear them off。 I'll be adjusting my tally of my reading list to absorb all these as there quite small。 These are all quite fun to read and are harmless。 Granted these books aren't full storylines， it's no easy task creating a library of storylines， that have engaged audiences over time。 This very first book I have read is not number 1， but it's a little hard to get from the library as there all on order and only 5Lucky Luke has been on my list to read for years now and it's finally the time to clear them off。 I'll be adjusting my tally of my reading list to absorb all these as there quite small。 These are all quite fun to read and are harmless。 Granted these books aren't full storylines， it's no easy task creating a library of storylines， that have engaged audiences over time。 This very first book I have read is not number 1， but it's a little hard to get from the library as there all on order and only come in at different times。Why the 5？ This two part storyline was fun to read and even though it's number 40 something on the list， no earlier prep was required。 It will be interesting to see how the earlier books read， as these are quite good。 Maybe time helps， but maybe the earlier books are better。 Time will tell。 。。。more

This is probably the first Lucky Luke adventure that is actually good。 Morris seems to have imporved his story telling by that time （still no match compared to the Goscinny era of course）。 No wonder Pat Poker became one of the top Lucky Luke villains。

Another early outing for Lucky Luke in this pre-Goscinny collection of two tales involving the despicable Pat Poker， a card sharp and all-round dirty cheater。 Luke first stumbles upon him after taking a job as a town’s sheriff， but having been robbed of his clothes， guns and Jolly Jumper before he arrives in town， Luke is rescued by a well-meaning woman who dresses him in her young son’s outfit。 This means that when Luke does finally arrive， he looks the very opposite of a hardened lawman and ev Another early outing for Lucky Luke in this pre-Goscinny collection of two tales involving the despicable Pat Poker， a card sharp and all-round dirty cheater。 Luke first stumbles upon him after taking a job as a town’s sheriff， but having been robbed of his clothes， guns and Jolly Jumper before he arrives in town， Luke is rescued by a well-meaning woman who dresses him in her young son’s outfit。 This means that when Luke does finally arrive， he looks the very opposite of a hardened lawman and every bit the greenhorn buffoon the town’s people paint him as。Fortunately， looks can be deceiving， and Luke plays this to his advantage， eventually catching them on the hoof and bringing Pat Poker to justice。 By the second tale Luke arrives in a shady little town of whittlers and bumps into a rough character dead-set on hanging a shepherd （they don’t like sheep in these parts） to which Luke naturally steps in and saves。 Unbeknownst to all， though， Pat Poker has card-sharped his way out of prison and stumbles into the very same town。 The rough and the cheat then realise their destinies are intwined in the despatching of Lucky Luke and so team up to do just that， which makes for a rather neat little play in the Pat Poker’s room over the saloon where he’s invited Luke to play cards。This is a slightly different Luke to the his later books。 He still smokes， he swigs whiskey rather than milk， and he shoots villain’s dead rather than the ol’ shoot their weapon’s from the palm of their hands。 He even doesn’t mind a bit of animal cruelty， having enlisted the aid of a skunk to scatter a crowd set on a hanging he later shoots dead the same skunk to show off what a good shot he is。 But this was written for a different audience at a different time， and it would be foolish to tamper with it to take into account modern sensibilities。 Both stories successfully evoke the spirit of the western adventures of cinema and TV with tongue firmly planted in cheek。So all-in-all two solid little stories， displaying all the hallmarks of fun， humour and adventure that has made this character and this series so successful and long-lived。 。。。more
